Surgical Services
Obstetrics- The typical surgical services are available for our pregnant patients. Cesarian delivery when indicated, cervical cerclage, repair of vaginal tears following delivery, post-partum tubal ligations are performed by experienced board- certified or board eligible physicians.
Day Surgery- at Presbyterian or Lovelace Downtown Day Surgical Units, we can perform laparoscopic or hysteroscopic (Essure procedure), tubal sterilization procedures, hysteroscopic D & C, removal of fibroid tumors, vaginal or vulvar cysts, laser of vulvar and vaginal condyloma, labial revision, incontinence procedures, treatment of endometriosis and pelvic pain and endometrial ablation procedures to treat heavy periods.
Minimally Invasive Pelvic Floor Prolapse and Urinary Incontinence Surgery- Many 35-85 year old women who have had one or more vaginal deliveries experience the sensation that their vagina, bladder, uterus or rectum are “falling out”. This uncomfortable feeling can be accompanied by uncontrolled loss of urine when the patient coughs, sneezes, laughs or stands. The older surgeries for this problem either did not provide long lasting results or were associated with long recoveries and significant post operative pain. Now, we can perform repairs of severe vaginal floor defects utilizing synthetic and biologic mesh materials without the need of skin incisions or general anesthesia.
Laparoscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy with or without removal the ovaries- This converts a hysterectomy from a 3 day hospital stay and 6 week recovery to a 1 day hospital stay and a 2-3 week recovery.
Abdominal or Vaginal Hysterectomy- with or without pelvic floor repair and incontinence surgery when needed.
Incontinence Procedure-InterStim Therapy for more effective Urinary Control: InterStim provides a minimally invasive office based procedure to assess the success of the therapy. If the office procedure shows effective urinary control, the patient proceeds directly to the second stage, the implant procedure for the InterStim neurostimulator. The device is typically implanted in the buttock.
Her Option Procedure - This 15-20 minute office based procedure was developed to treat women with heavy periods in the comfort and privacy of a medical office without the need for anesthesia. 90% of patients who have the HOP report a significant improvement in the quality of life and a decrease in their menstrual flow. With only the cost of an office co-pay, The Her Option Procedure has decreased my patient’s heavy bleeding related hysterectomy rate by 90%.
Essure Procedure -Essure is an FDA approved sterilization procedure for women. There are no incisions. Instead, spring-like coils called micro-inserts are inserted through the body’s natural pathways (vagina, cervix, and uterus) and into the fallopian tube.
InterStim Procedure- InterStim provides a minimally invasive office based procedure to assess the success of the therapy. If the office procedure shows effective urinary control, the patient may proceed to the second stage- the implant procedure for the InterStim neurostimulator.
