Second Trimester
During the first 32 weeks of your pregnancy, we will be seeing you at 4 week intervals. You can expect lab work at 16 weeks and 28 weeks. At 16 weeks, we will draw your routine prenatal profile, thyroid screen, cystic fibrosis screen, and multiple marker screen. The cystic fibrosis and multiple marker screen are optional tests. The multiple marker screen tests for Down’s Syndrome, Spina Bifida, fetal abdominal wall defects, and other chromosomal abnormalities. At 20-22 weeks, an ultrasound will be performed to assure normal growth of your baby and with this ultrasound we can predict the sex of your baby 97% of the time. You can expect a 10 pound weight gain during the first 20 weeks after which you will most likely gain a pound per week for the last 20 weeks of your pregnancy. At 28 weeks, we will check you for diabetes, anemia, and help you schedule prenatal classes if you desire.
